Areas of expertise and career experience: Core Expertise & Professional Focus:

Linguistic Governance & Standards: I specialize in the creation and maintenance of comprehensive Style Guides and complex Terminology Databases (Glossaries). I believe that high-quality localization requires strict adherence to grammar rules, syntax standards, and brand-specific requirements. I transform these “soft” linguistic traits into “hard” requirements that ensure consistency across millions of words in global products.

The Language Engineer Mindset: I advocate for a role where the linguist acts as an active manager of the “AI-Human Loop.” I focus on the practical application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Translation Post-Editing (MTPE). This includes optimizing AI prompts and reference materials to ensure that technology handles scale while humans focus on cultural nuances, grammatical precision, and high-stakes accuracy.

Translation Technology & Infrastructure (CAT & TMS): I have a deep, hands-on understanding of the entire localization ecosystem. I work with traditional CAT environments like SDL Trados Studio and MemoQ, enterprise management platforms like XTM and Plunet, and modern cloud-native solutions like Crowdin. I use these tools to automate terminology enforcement and quality checks across complex workflows.

Linguistic Data & Business Growth: I use data to prove the value of localization. I track and interpret department performance metrics, including Edit Distance baselines for AI efficiency, and business KPIs such as Click-Through Rate (CTR), Conversion Rate (CR), Return on Investment (ROI), and Bounce Rates. I demonstrate how linguistic quality directly impacts user retention and revenue.

Professional Leadership & Mentorship:

Mentoring & People Development: Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to mentoring professionals and helping them navigate the localization industry. I have a proven track record of successfully onboarding specialists, managing their professional growth, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Hiring & Talent Calibration: I am actively involved in the recruitment and calibration of new talent. I know exactly what skills the industry requires today and how to help candidates bridge the gap between their linguistic training and a fast-paced corporate environment.

Strategic Advocacy & Technical Alignment: I lead “Linguistic Advocacy” by conducting research to embed localization requirements (such as character limits, pluralization rules, and gender-neutral language) into technical systems, including custom CMS builds.

Personal strengths: My professional identity is built on a foundation of years as a hands-on specialist, which has naturally evolved into a strategic leadership mindset.

Continuous Learning & Industry Curiosity: I am a lifelong learner who stays at the absolute forefront of the localization industry. I am constantly searching for the latest trends, research, and technical advancements. This allows me to mentor others not just on today’s best practices, but on the future of our field.

Adaptive Problem-Solving & Resourcefulness: When standard solutions or tools are unavailable, I use my technical foundation to create workarounds or build custom solutions from scratch. I teach mentees that professional excellence is about being resourceful and finding a path forward, no matter the technical constraints.

Evolution from Specialist to Strategist: Having spent years mastering the technical and linguistic “nitty-gritty” of localization, I have a deep, intuitive understanding of the field. This allows me to guide others through the transition from task-based execution to high-level strategic ownership.

Analytical Objectivity: I prioritize data over assumptions. Drawing from my specialist background, I provide concise, objective feedback that helps mentees use performance metrics (like Edit Distance, ROI, and Conversion Rates) to build professional confidence and prove the business value of their work.

Empathetic Advocacy: Because I have been a specialist myself, I am a vocal advocate for the profession. I focus on bridging the gap between technical departments and linguistic teams, ensuring specialists are recognized as vital strategic partners in the product lifecycle.

Expectations for students: I value an eagerness to learn above existing technical knowledge. It is completely okay not to know everything; in fact, “not knowing” is the perfect starting point. What matters most is your proactive approach to finding answers, your courage to ask questions, and your desire to understand the strategy behind the work. If you bring curiosity and a commitment to your own development, we will have a successful partnership.

My motivation/personal goal for participating in the mentorship programme: My motivation stems from a genuine passion for linguistic advocacy and a desire to share the strategic knowledge I’ve gained. Having previously guest-lectured at KTU, I was inspired by the students’ engagement, which sparked my long-term interest in academia. This goal perfectly aligns with my recent transition to Localization Team Lead, as my focus has shifted from hands-on execution to empowering others and building future-proof strategies.

I truly believe that localization is one of the most exciting fields today. While there is much talk about AI taking over, I know from experience that technology cannot replace human cultural instinct and linguistic nuance. I want to mentor students to see themselves as strategic “Language Engineers” who use AI as a tool, not a replacement. My goal is to bridge the gap between university and the tech industry, helping the next generation thrive in the global digital economy.

Interests and other information about me: Outside of work, I am passionate about running and long-distance biking, having recently completed a half-marathon and a 100km ride. These endurance sports reflect my professional work ethic—requiring persistence, discipline, and a focus on long-term goals.

I am also a proud dog owner to my dog, Luna, and a dedicated advocate for animal shelters. In my creative time, I enjoy creating UGC (pets/animals/gardening), which allows me to explore digital storytelling from a different perspective. I believe that staying active and socially engaged keeps me grounded and consistently curious about the world around me.
